The patriotic brainchild from
the founders of PLATFORM

to celebrate the special SG50
year of the golden jubilee of Singapore’s independence. We were invited to design the
exhibition space.
Twenty books were published over the course of the project, with twenty photographers selected to create fifteen images for their own limited run folio released in the months leading up to August 9, 2015. Marking the cumulation and finale of TwentyFifteen.sg, the exhibition was held at The Esplanade.
Challenged to think outside of the expected exhibition setup of images in rigid frames and demarcated sections, the exhibition’s design concept focused around perceiving the images more as art pieces, rather than just photography prints.
With 216sqm of gallery space to play with, we designed a space that was both fluid in presenting the artwork and enjoyable for a visitor’s viewing journey. The gallery’s high ceilings, architecture, and natural light were considered, such that the prints were hung high above the visitor with wooden strips, and cascaded right down to their feet—showcasing the different paper stocks used. On the other side of the exhibition, the twenty books were proudly on display, colour coded to their respective prints.
Wood elements were used throughout the exhibition. Some wooden strips acted as "frames"—where the prints hung from—and were tediously hand-painted in our studio.
